WHERE ARE THE FALLS?
In 1896, a series of rapids in the Thief River were converted to a waterfall by a dam. At this time, “Falls” was added to the city’s name.

Roseau, MN
Originally established by the Hudson Bay Fur Trading Company as a fur trading post on the eastern edge of the now extinct Roseau Lake,
Roseau has continued its tradition as a trade center in northwest Minnesota on into the present. Today Roseau is a vibrant and growing community of 2,700 with a strong business and community environment.
Additionally, Roseau has always been and continues to be an outdoorsman's paradise catering to the fisherman, hunter, snowmobiler, and outdoor recreation enthusiast.
When in Roseau you can't help but feel that you are a part of a special community that cares for its residents as well as those who are just passing through. So no matter what you are looking for Roseau has got it.
Warroad, MN
Warroad was once one of the largest Chippewa villages on Lake of the Woods. The Chippewa fought a long and fierce war against the Sioux for the lake's rice fields. Occupying the prairies of the Red River Valley, the Sioux would frequently invade the territory by way of the Red and Roseau Rivers, a route which ended at the mouth of the Warroad River. This was the old “war road” from which the river and village derived their name.

The City of Warroad with a population of approximately 1,700 is located in Roseau County. Population within 5 miles of Warroad is estimated at over 5,000.
Karlstad, MN
Karlstad is home to approximately 900 people and is located in the southeast corner of Kittson County at the junction of U.S. Highway 59 and Minnesota State Highway 11. Residents of Karlstad benefit from having a variety of churches, businesses, industries and services. Some of these include fine health care facilities, a large volunteer fire department, a complete school system and a full range of housing options.
Karlstad offers many recreational possibilities for all seasons. Parks include tennis courts, volleyball nets, softball fields, playground equipment, skating rink, picnic shelters, bathroom facilities and camping and RV facilities are available. A nine hole golf course, on the northeast corner of town, should certainly be of interest to many golfers in the area. Those interested can also enjoy close proximity to hunting, snowmobile trails and cross country skiing. For all ages and interests, Karlstad has something to offer you.
